Happy Chinese New year's :D 01/29/11

shana's little brother doing his lion dancing

The days they past and the weather got crappy. On the 20th, we slept in my truck at Shark's Cove to watch the Eddie but they never held it because the waves were inconsistent (I never had my camera because it was last minute :/). It was fun though haha the waves were pretty epic and it was a full moon!
Things weren't working out (school, Keoni's surfing, truck dying in Hau'ula) so there was a 2 week break in adventures. Instead of the same grind, I had the chance to celebrate Chinese New Year's with my dear friends Shana and Chucky. It was really fun and crowded! Good food and a great cultural experience. These pictures are from Shana's mom.

oO what is that?

it was pretty good lol

i'm only making that face because shana's little brother kept telling me
that the reason why they were brown, it's because they rub them with dirt lol

crowded!

Kahuku Sand Dunes 01/16/11

After being sick for 2 weeks and missing a lot of potential beautiful adventure days, the storms started coming in. We were suppose to do Kamaileunu ridge but Keoni being the weather guru, he opted for a coastal hike. He was right because it started storming Waianae side while we were on our adventure (it stayed sunny where we were at though lol). Anyways, this adventure was super fun and I'd do it again with a visiting friend. We started off at Turtle bay Resort and just walked along the coast towards Kahuku. I found beautiful shells and a blue fishing buoy! My dad collected these things since I can remember and we hang them from our trees in our yard :)
There's a lot of beauty here and I hope they NEVER build an effing hotel there. We ended our adventure after cruising at a large tide pool and ventured back to my truck. Overall, the unique beauty of the Kahuku Sand Dunes as well as the ocean side was well worth it.

Kealia Trail 01/04/11

I did this hike with a sinus infection and severely blistered feet with Keoni. We started on the 7 mile trail at 6:45am and finished at 11am. Thank god that there is the ocean because it's much needed to jump in the water after this grueling hike. Overall, the views of North shore and Makua Valley are very beautiful. If you do this trail to Makua Valley, you HAVE TO bring enough water or you will DIE from heat exhaustion. Not one small bottle of Dasani, you gotta have AT LEAST 1.5 liters/person. After this hike, my feet were effed up and my sinus infection turned into a chest infection. I learned my lesson.

switchback #???? here comes the sun

after the switchbacks there is a picnic table area. we rested here.

after walking up and down on a bullsh*t dirtroad for an hour 1/2..
we reached makua valley... why hello there~

Ka'au Crater 01/02/11

Ka'au Crater yo

FIRST HIKE OF THE NEW YEAR! This hike was pretty fun besides the narrow muddy path. There is a high chance of slipping and sliding down the mountain-side. There are three beautiful waterfalls with the third cascading waterfall that we had to climb. I thought that was the most fun part of the hike because it reminded me of something similar I did in Tahiti. Some of the ropes were pretty sketchy so please test the ropes before using them O__O I was a bit annoyed for not going up the rim but overall, it was a nice hike. The view of the hidden crater was cool.

Makapu'u Lighthouse 12/30/10

Super fun day with Keoni, Krischa, and her cousin Kainoa. I'd bring a visiting friend here for the whole day because there are different things you can do: walk on the paved sidewalk up to the lighthouse lookout, numerous trails up the hill (different views of Koko head/Makapu'u beach, old military bunkers, small kine psuedo ridge with beautiful views), Queen's bath, and Pele's chair. Overall, there's so much to do in this area and it's free!

haha we started a little early.. but missed the sunrise :/

please don't do this lol

me and krischa. it was really windy

Queen's Bath

beautiful views at the end

Lulumahu 12/11/2010

Lulumahu Falls

After a stormy Friday, we began our journey on a beautiful sunny morning to Nuuanu Valley. I can't really tell you exactly how to get to the trail head but if you get to the parking lot, you're there. Beautiful views and mossy rocks. This adventure reminded me of my lava tube adventure in Tahiti, minus the lava tubes :)

Puena Point 12/09/2010

Instead of doing a sunrise hike due to the storm, we went to North Shore to check out the Billabong Pipeline Masters. I guess because the weather was severe, they did not hold the contest. After a couple hours watching the waves at Rock Piles and Sunset Beach, we went to Puena Point. I haven't been there since I was a kid so it was really nice to go there.

If you keep walking along the beach, you would reach Police Beach and then Papailoa etc. It's okay if you stay on the beach but do not venture in land because it's private property.
